GREETINGS beloved nation in the name of Jesus Christ. As we enter the season of Passover, we remember the significance of this time when nations worldwide celebrate the deliverance of the Israelites, as documented in the book of Exodus.
The children of Israel were in bondage for 430 years, enduring plagues in Egypt as God sought to compel Pharaoh to release His people. Despite the plagues, Pharaoh’s heart remained hardened. It was only with one final plague — the death of the firstborn — that God’s judgment would be executed.
Exodus 12:3 states, “Speak unto all the congregation of Israel, saying on the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for a house.”
Here, God instructed every family in Israel to select a lamb. This lamb represents Jesus, who had to die so that we might be freed from sin and suffering. In verse 7, we read that they were commanded to put the blood on their doorposts.
Verses 12-13 say, “For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the first-born in the land of Egypt, both man and beast and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD. And the blood shall be a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.”
The blood of the lamb provided protection and exemption from the plague of death.
If you are not born again, you are spiritually dead. However, if you receive Christ Jesus, you will have life, and have it abundantly. The Passover signifies the blood that spoke of protection and covering for the people of Israel.
Likewise, the blood of Jesus protects and covers us, ensuring that the angel of death does not destroy those who are under this divine protection.
It is vital to recognise that the blood of Jesus is more powerful than any other blood. While all blood carries a certain power, the blood of Jesus speaks of better things than the blood of Abel. The blood of Abel called for vengeance, whereas the blood of Jesus speaks of forgiveness and reconciliation. We must comprehend the profound mystery of the blood.
Blood is powerful in various contexts. From a medical perspective, transfusions demonstrate that blood can heal and restore life. Similarly, individuals often seek help from witchdoctors who use animal blood to bring about changes in their circumstances, highlighting the significance of blood in spiritual matters.
In 2 Kings 3, we learn of the Israelites fighting the Moabites. In verses 25-27, the king of the Moabites, witnessing defeat, sacrificed his child, invoking dread and causing Israel to retreat. This illustrates the influence of blood in spiritual warfare.
Nonetheless, no sacrifice surpasses the power of the blood of Jesus. Revelation 12:11 states, “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.” This scripture emphasises how the blood of Jesus grants believers victory over the devil, who seeks to terrorise nations.
Leviticus reveals that “the life of the creature is in the blood,” signifying that there is life in the blood of Jesus. John 6:53 states, “Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.” Therefore, we recognise that true life is found in the blood of Jesus.
I invite those who are not yet born again to receive Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour. May the Lord God bless our beloved nation, Zimbabwe. Amen.
