‘The snake belongs to my uncle,’ busted tsikamutanda tells cops

ONE of the tsikamutandas nabbed by cops in Gweru for possessing a live puff adder snake claimed it belonged to his uncle.

Vengesai Gomera, one of the witch-hunters from Gokwe who were en route to Shurugwi on a mission to exorcise evil spirits, revealed to the public in fear of mob justice that the snake was not his but it belonged to his uncle who kept lots of them.

Gomera together with Tinei Ndanga (ABOVE) and Tapiwa Pfuye were on Tuesday arrested by police who were on patrol while the other accomplice and the said uncle Sekuru Munyaradzi fled.

a?I am not the owner of the snake. Sekuru Munyaradzi is the one who owns it. He has a lot of other snakes back home.

That is the reason why he fled because he knew that he was going to be in trouble. I did not know that the bag he asked me to carry had a snake inside,a? said Gomera.

Gomera said he was his uncleas assistant even though he knew nothing about the contents in the bag.

a?I always go with him to perform the rituals because l am his assistant. The snake is honestly not mine,a? he added.

The trio was arrested for contravening section 61 of Parks and Wildlife Regulations along Shurugwi road at around 10 am.

When B-Metro got to the scene, police officers were having a hard time to control the crowd that had gathered to catch a glimpse of the snake and the tsikamutandas.

Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Joel Goko confirmed the arrest.

a?Police arrested Ndanga, Pfunye and Gomera after searching their bags. They found a live puff adder inside and they were immediately arrested. They are expected to appear in court soon,a? said Goko.

The snake was then taken by the Zimbabwe National Parks and wildlife Management rangers.
