The sooner we have polls the better: Khaya Moyo

MDC formations’ resistance to have the  poll soon, Zanu-PF national chairman, Cde Simon Khaya Moyo said yesterday.
Cde Khaya Moyo said the conditions being set by the formations was an attempt to buy time because they did not want to leave the comfort of being in Government.

In separate meetings with diplomats who paid a courtesy call on him yesterday, Cde Khaya Moyo said there was no reason for the inclusive Government to continue because it was dysfunctional.
He met ambassadors Mohammad Pournajaf and Dr Panduleni Shingenge from Iran and Namibia respectively.
“The quicker we hold elections the better for us because we can- not continue with this relationship with people who continue to be guided by the West,” Cde Khaya Moyo said.

“We know they are told by their masters to drag their feet but we are saying once the constitution is set, the President can set the date for elections because he has the powers to do so.
“What is critical is for us to move and fulfil people’s expectations like economic empowerment.
“What is outstanding to them is irrelevant; for example, security sector reforms are not in the GPA.

“Actually, what is outstanding are the illegal sanctions and pirate radio stations and these items are in the GPA.”
Cde Khaya Moyo said Zanu-PF was encouraging its party supporters to refrain from any form of violence.
He also hailed relations between Zimbabwe and Iran saying the two countries had a lot in common.

Cde Khaya Moyo said Zimba-bwean and Iranian leaders wanted to see their ordinary people empowered.
He said the two countries believed in sovereignty and non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries.
Cde Khaya Moyo hailed Zimbabwe-Iran relations for the joint projects.

In the meeting with Ambassador Shingenge, Cde Khaya Moyo said the relationship between Zanu-PF and Swapo had come a long way.
Cde Khaya Moyo said the forthcoming Zanu-PF annual national people’s conference to be hosted by Bulawayo Province was going to make far-reaching decisions.

Zanu-PF, he said was determined to continue with programmes that empowered the people.
Ambassador Pournajaf said Zimbabwe and Iran had similar backgrounds of having gone through revolutions.

He said Iran would not forget the blood of its martyrs the same way Zimbabwe would not forget the blood of its liberation heroes.
“Your leadership is seasoned and they know how to navigate the boat even in the storm.

“In Iran we recently hosted a conference to fight terrorism, a channel for us to voice our concerns and illegal sanctions are the modalities of terrorism.
“We should always be aware that illegal sanctions are the weapons and tools used to paralyse countries.

“Missiles and sanctions never bring happiness but hatred,” Ambassador Pournajaf said.
Ambassador Shingenge hailed Zimbabwe’s role in facilitating education for Namibian students in Zimbabwe.
She said many Namibian students had graduated in Zimbabwe resulting in them contributing significantly to their country.
