The stone was rolled away

MARK 16:1-6

And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.

 

[2] And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.

 

[3] And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre?

 

[4] And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great.

 

[5] And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted.

 

[6] And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.

It was a gloomy period, when Jesus was betrayed, crucified and buried.

 

His disciples were discouraged.

Some had fled from the scene in the Garden of Gethsemane.

 

Only Peter tried to offer resistance.

 

Using a sword, he missed the head of one of Jesus’ assailants, managing only to slice off his ear.

One, believed to be John Mark, had fled, naked from the scene.

 

Judas had hanged himself. Peter had denied Him.

After the crucifixion, there was uncertainty as to what was happening to Jesus, wherever He was.

There was no expectation of His resurrection.

 

When He rose, the two men on the way to Emmaus mistook Him for a stranger in Jerusalem who was not up to date with the events of the recent days.

Mary thought He was a gardener.

Thomas did not believe until he put his finger into His wounds.

 

There was no slight idea that He would rise.

 

They had seen how wounded He was.

They saw how bruised He was while He was on the cross.

 

Noone speculated that such a Person would rise.

While they doubted that He would rise, the Pharisees and Chief priests had a notion He would rise.

They went to Pilate and asked him to secure the tomb by having guards around it and sealing the tomb.

Their lame reason for the security was that His disciples were going to steal the body and claim He had risen.

 

The devil knows better about God than Christians know.

 

Satan knew Jesus would rise, more than His disciples knew.

What a beautiful morning, when Mary Magdalene, and other women came to the tomb, wondering, “Who will roll away the stone from the grave? Who will be able to take the stone away?”

 

They went on, forward, by faith, believing.

 

As the morning began to break, I can imagine the robins and all quit their singing.

 

Something was afoot.

 

The Saviour was going to rise.

Maybe a great fireball came flying from Heaven and stood by the grave, and it turned out to be the mighty Angel of God who stood there.

The soldiers fainted and dropped to the ground like dead men.

 

With just a brush of His hand, the Angel rolled back the stone.

 

It took perhaps several men to roll the stone onto the door of the grave.

 

But it took the brush of one Angel’s hand to remove it.

 

Whew!

He broke the Roman seal!

 

The seal meant nothing to Him.

 

God, in Christ had to rise and live.

 

He had to come out.

 

He could not live among the dead.

When the Angel rolled back the stone, He took over.

 

He defiantly sat on the stone.

They found the stone rolled away. Believer, just move on and find your stone already rolled away.

 

The Angel rolled away the stone and sat upon it, as if to forbid it from rolling back.

When Jesus does something in your life, He sits on the impediment to your success.

 

He sits on the thing that was blocking you.

 

It wont block you again.

 

Once He rolls away the stone, it won’t return.

 

When the Son of man sets you free, you are free indeed.

He rose up from the grave, triumphant over death, hell, and the grave; and said, “Lo, I am with thee always, even to the end of the world.”

Today, He lives supremely in our lives, and there is no more guessing about it. Resurrection time is one of the greatest times.

If there ever was a time that full Gospel, born again, regenerated people, ought to be shouting the praises of God, it is on the resurrection morning, when they know that it is a memorial of what has happened to them: “Once dead, in sin and trespasses; now raised, seated in Christ, in Heavenly places, knowing our Redeemer lives.”

Yes, the stone was rolled away.
