The virtuous woman

In Proverbs 31 this verse explains the virtuous woman as

1. Hard working women. Verses 13,19, 22 describe a woman as diligent and skilled and a crafts-person. Women should not be lazy but must be industrious.

2. Farmer and wise businesswoman. Verses 16, 23 describe her as a landowner and successful business woman. A woman must exercise and utilise the God-given capacity invested in her to produce wealth and riches wisely.

3. Giver to the poor. Verse 20 describes a woman as a philanthropist “one who gives away money.” A woman must be hospitable and kind. She must stretch her hand to the poor and needy.

4. A humble spirit. Verse 26 describes a woman as very wise, whose opinion is respected. A woman should have a quiet spirit and not to be harsh so that her opinions are respected. Deborah — the radical woman. Deborah is a Hebrew name which means “Honey-bee or the one who stings”. Deborah was a prophetess and judge in Israel. God raised her up and gave her leadership abilities. Deborah was also known as a wise settler of disputes an arbitrator of justice, counsellor, wife, and deliverer in time of war.

1. Spirit filled multi-talented woman

Deborah was a power-packed female judge, whose multiple leadership functions demonstrate the possibilities for any woman who will allow God’s spirit to fill and to form her life. She became a well-known leader of political influence and authority, but, still maintained the grace and dignity of womanhood. Under her leadership, the people witnessed God’s providential assistance in the form of a massive storm and the defeat of Sisera, the commander of Jabins army — a superior armed force. This was a God-fearing woman who allowed the spirit of God to develop her gifts.

2. Bold woman

Prophetess and Judge Deborah held two offices. One has a Prophetess and one as a Judge or ruler. She led the “Team” that subdued the enemy under God’s hand. Deborah used to sing the prophetic song “Judges 5 vs 13 — then the Lord made me have dominion over the mighty”. She fulfilled the original purpose of God.
