MABVUKU legislator and Scottland FC president Pedzai “Scott” Sakupwanya has described the death of the club’s sponsor, businessman Wicknell Chivayo, his wife Lucy Muteke and four others in a helicopter crash as a devastating loss to the football family.

Chivayo and his wife were among five people who died when the helicopter they were travelling in crashed in Marondera Rural on Wednesday evening.

The Government confirmed there were no survivors, while investigations into the cause of the crash are underway.

In a condolence message, Cde Sakupwanya said Chivayo’s relationship with Scottland FC went beyond financial sponsorship and described him as someone who believed in the club’s ambitions and stood with the team during both difficult and successful moments.

“It is with profound shock and heavy hearts that Honourable Pedzai ‘Scott’ Sakupwanya and the entire Scottland family learn of the tragic passing of club sponsor, Sir Wicknell Chivayo, his wife Lucy Muteke and four others in a helicopter crash,” he said.

“Beyond the sponsorship, Sir Wicknell believed in our dreams, stood by us through every triumph and challenge, and became an invaluable part of the Scottland FC family.”

Cde Sakupwanya said Chivayo’s death has left a huge void at the club and among people who benefited from his generosity.

“The void left by this sudden demise is huge, not only for Scottland FC, but for everyone whose lives were touched by his generosity,” he said.

Scottland FC has previously acknowledged Chivayo’s support as the club rose through the ranks of Zimbabwean football.

The club president extended condolences to the Chivayo and Muteke families, as well as their friends and colleagues at IMC.

“At this exceptionally difficult time, our thoughts, prayers, and deepest sympathies go out to the bereaved families, friends, and colleagues at IMC,” he said.

“May you find strength, comfort, and peace in the wonderful memories they leave behind. May their souls Rest In Peace!”
