Theatre galore at Hifa

Theatre audiences should expect a wide and varied range of plays at this year’s Harare International Festival of the Arts with a strong representation of Zimbabwean productions.

Elton Mjanana, who is the theatre consultant at HIFA 2015, whose theme is “Articulate” said the programme would feature some of the amazing productions from different cultures and influence.

“We are delighted to bring a mixed bag of productions from puppetry, comedy to drama. All this will be part of the articulate programme suitable for HIFA audiences who come from different backgrounds and cultures.

“So like in previous years we have picked productions for big audiences such as ZB Bank Reps Theatre as well as for intimate audiences at The Standard Theatre where most Zimbabwean plays will be staged.

“However, it is encouraging that we have had brilliant local productions from Masvingo, Bulawayo and Harare which will excite the audience.

“Added to this are collaborations with playwrights from the UK and the US,” he said.

He said there will be a special section for children which is being supported by Assitej, which is quite new at HIFA 2015.

Some of the productions not to be missed ianclude Raisedon Baya’s “The Taking”, “The Greyman Experiment” by Mandisi Gobodi and “Sunrise”.

These productions will leave audiences in stitches with their humour and contemporary style.
