BULAWAYO-born actor Ronald Sigeca, now based in Harare, has earned his fourth nomination at the 24th edition of the National Arts Merit Awards (Nama). The awards ceremony will be held this Saturday at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC).

Sigeca who has one Nama to his name, received the nomination in the Outstanding Actor category for his role as Prophet in These Humans Are Sick. He faces stiff competition from Cadrick Msongelwa (Zi Animal Farm) and Elroy Takunda Musiiwa (Zi Animal Farm).

The actor is well known for his roles in award-winning productions, including Zandezi, Umbiko Kamadlenya, Imbokodo, Breathing Graves, I Am Was Marah, Promise, and These Humans Are Sick.

Reflecting on the recognition, Sigeca said: “This is my fourth nomination, and I’ve won one before. I feel proud; it’s a reminder that hard work pays off and an encouragement to aim even higher. I want to reach international standards, so I’m not stopping until I see that dream come to life.”

He added: “I can’t pinpoint one thing that earned me this nomination, but I believe it’s the passion I put into the role. To my team and family, last year was rough, and this play gave me hope and healing. I’m grateful for having been trusted with such a powerful role.”

Sigeca described his approach to growing his craft:
“I’m a mobile artist who works anywhere in Zimbabwe. Harare opened doors that took my career to another level. I’ve worked with many companies and big names, learning from each. I still credit my roots and the people who discovered and trained me as a small boy.”

On international exposure, he said: “I’ve toured with Zandezi to more than six countries, including the USA, China, Switzerland, South Africa, Spain, and Zambia, and we’re still pushing for more international shows.” – Follow on X: @mthabisi_mthire
