A 23-year-old man from Esigodini was caught red handed carrying a coffee table and a blanket he had stolen from his neighbour.
The goods were part of the $900 worth of property that Methuseli Dlamini had stolen from Lames Mpunzi, also from the same area.Dlamini appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Victor Mpofu on Friday facing charges of unlawful entry, theft and assault.
Prosecuting, Concilia Ncube said on an unknown date in September this year, Dlamini broke into Mpunzi’s homestead and stole a bed, mattress, four picks, two shovels, a blanket, two ploughs, one plough wheel, a table and 20 kg barbed wire.
Mpunzi was in Bulawayo at that time.
Ncube said when Mpunzi got wind that his property had been stolen, he sent his neighbour Christopher Mkandla to investigate the issue.
“Upon arrival at Dlamini’s homestead, Mkandla caught up with the accused carrying a coffee table and a blanket,” she said.
Ncube said when Dlamini was questioned on why he was taking the property he said he had decided to return it.
“Dlamini pounced on Mkandla and stabbed him with a knife on his right rib,” she said.
The matter came to light when Mkandla went to the local hospital for treatment leading to Dlamini’s arrest.
Property worth $200 was recovered.
Dlamini was denied bail and was remanded in custody to January 10, next year.
