adminIt was an unexpected surprise for guests at the Black Opal Face of Zimbabwe (Bofoz) 2015 prize giving ceremony in Harare to see second princess, Mercy Kamanura, 24, in attendance over the weekend. Mercy Kamanura, who is waiting for a court ruling next month, after being charged with stealing a jumpsuit worth $40 from Edgars, was accompanied to the ceremony by her publicist Thembelani Maposa.
Though she tried to put on a brave face, acting like all was well, interacting with the public seemed to be a nightmare for the model, as she often got “the look” when those who knew her story recognised her.
To add onto the already tense situation, Black Opal representative Tanaka Ngorora, announced that she would not receive any prizes until her court verdict on October 16.
Kamanura’s publicist however thanked Edgars for handling the theft accusation issue professionally.
“We want to thank Edgars for the way they’re handling the issue through the courts without making noise about it. As for Black Opal, they’re also handling this issue in a dignified way. They were not quick to point a finger but are also waiting for the judge’s decision,” Maposa said.
It was reported that on September 4, Kamanura, appeared in court before Harare magistrate Tilda Mutambanashe to answer to theft charges. Prosecutor Richard Makondo told the court that Kamanura used to frequent Edgars VIP customer stores. On September 1, she entered Edgars at corner Kwame Nkrumah Avenue and First Street in Harare around 5PM. She allegedly pretended that she wanted to buy clothes and took three dresses to the fitting room.
The model later emerged from the fitting room with two dresses. She returned the two dresses. When a security guard searched her at the exit point, he found a jumpsuit in her handbag. It is alleged the model lied that she bought the jumpsuit at Edgars Joina City branch.
The alert security guard dashed to the fitting room where Kamanura had tried the dresses and found the price tag that was attached to the jumpsuit discarded. She failed to prove that she bought the jumpsuit and was promptly arrested. Showbiz Reporter/Zimbojam.
