Think big, broaden your horizon

around the globe engage in various laborious activities but the hardest of them all is thinking. The greatest work that a human being can engage in is thinking.
Most people flee the task of sustained thinking and decide to take refuge in various forms of entertainment. Others succumb to the temptation to think in retrospect and even complain about how deep they think.
The reality is that they are exercising that faculty of the mind called memory. They are playing old tapes and remembering what happened to them in the past, good or bad.
You can spend a good chunk of time reminiscing, evoking thoughts of past experiences and disappointments, but this kind of thinking is only capable of enervating the power of progressive thinking. It is tantamount to driving a car concentrating on the rear view mirror, the consequences of which we need not mention.

Thinking in line with what can be seen is pretty easy since no extra effort is required. Thinking beyond what can be seen by the natural eye is the most difficult feat.
To think about lack when faced by the prospect of lack is easy. To meditate on illness when seeing your body deteriorating is the most natural thing to do. It is habitual to think of things as they appear.
A higher level of thinking then, is when you get the ability to see things as they should be and not as they are. This kind of seeing can only be implemented by the mind. The eyes of the mind can be opened by sustained thinking, which unfortunately a lot of people dread.

In life you can never receive more than your mind is capable of seeing. You ought to see it with your mind first. That is why you are encouraged to see with your mind what others fail to see with their eyes. The moment you train your mind to see bigger visions is when you begin to see bigger things gravitating towards you with unerring precision.
Many of us are taught that thinking small is synonymous with humility and thinking big is closely associated with arrogance. Nothing is further from the truth. Small thinking is that kind of thinking which looks at a situation or a circumstance and interpret it the way it looks. Big thinking is always associated with seeing a bigger picture out of everything. Take for example a seemingly negative or threatening situation; Instead of seeing it like it is, a Big thinker sees beyond the face value. Someone can be broke today but does not mean they are poor. It requires a big thinker to know the difference. An opportunity can be extremely great but the door that leads to that opportunity can be so small that it becomes difficult to imagine anything good coming from that opportunity.

Think in terms of where the door is leading to and avoid the temptation to judge the opportunity by the size of the door. Those people whose achievements we cherish and ascribe to some peculiarity in the formation of their skulls or some fineness in the texture of their brains, became who they are as a result of thinking beyond their horizons.
Allow yourself to get into environments that get you thinking. One day I had lunch with four of my clients.

Among all of them I was the smallest but I decided not to be threatened by their stations in life. Instead of talking about Bentleys and SUVs they were talking about private jets and building global businesses.
Although that was too ghastly for me to contemplate, it made me start to think at a different level. I looked at my self-image and my self-ideal and concluded that a lot of adjustments had to be done.

The same happens if you confine yourself to environments were people talk bad about great achievers and celebrate their confinement in smallness. Your mind gets inclined to think in terms of small and you will not go far. At some point you should be tired of being the timid, uncertain slow worker classified as low skilled and always occupying the bottom of the positional title totem pole.

At some stage in life you should be tired of being tired of always living a small life, seeing small things and associating with small ideas.
Aspire at some point to be sitting around a big table among great people discussing real issues like Dr Martin Luther King Jr said, ” . . . I would see Plato, Aristotle, Socrates, Euripides and Aristophanes assembled around the Parthenon.

“And I would watch them around the Parthenon as they discussed the great and eternal issues of reality.”
Would you not want to be among such as opposed to the trivialities upon which we spend most of your time debating; running away from ourselves and or afraid of engaging in deep thought?

Ask yourself some questions and try to come up with genuine answers. Questions like, “Where did I come from? Where am I going with my life? If I maintain this practice where will I end up being?” Those types of questions are capable of changing the course and direction of one’s life enabling them to develop a self-propelled upward spiral.
