THIRD HEART STADIUM SET TO BE BUILT IN LILONGWE

Sports Reporter

THE third Heart Stadium is set to be built in the Malawian capital Lilongwe with Prophet Walter Magaya insisting his biggest dream remains to renovate either Gwanzura or Chibuku Stadium.

The first Heart Stadium was built in Harare and the second one was unveiled in Maputo, Mozambique, last week.

Now, the stage has been set for the third Heart Stadium, which is set to be built in Lilongwe.

The Malawi stadium will be built at the Chipala Community Ground in the Ngomani village where a ground-breaking ceremony was held yesterdsy.

Yesterday’s event was graced by Chief Gomani, Lilongwe mayor Esther Sagawa and some high-ranking Malawian Government officials.

Speaking to the Malawian media, Magaya said Malawian officials approached him for assistance and they also speeded the paperwork process.

He insisted that projects in Maputo and Lilongwe did not mean he was giving up on Zimbabwean prime targets, including Chibuku and Gwanzura.

Chitungwiza council recently rejected a bid by Magaya to work on renovating Chibuku, resolving to go it alone.

“I still want to rehabilitate Chibuku or Gwanzura if permitted. Upgrading Chibuku remains my main prayer and one day, maybe, the authorities will allow me to do it as my last efforts were shot down.”

Asked if he was embarking on these ambitious projects in a bid to win ZIFA elections, Magaya said he has always been committed to football.

Magaya added that, instead of concentrating on the ZIFA elections, he was focusing on a tournament they are hosting next weekend at the Heart Stadium in Waterfalls.

“I have always given to the sport for the past 16 years. I was part of the Gunners administration 15 years ago when they lifted the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League title.

“So, this is a continuation of what I have been doing all along. After the Malawi trip, our focus will be on the first edition of the Magaya tournament, targeting grassroots in football and netball.”
