Three artisanal miners arrested in Masvingo for fatally beating colleague over stolen gold ore

Three artisanal miners from Manyama area on the outskirts of Masvingo City have been arrested after allegedly killing a colleague for stealing gold ore.

Brian Ndlovu (29), Jeffias Mudzviti(27) and Josphat Ncube (25) all of Good 17 Mine allegedly killed Isokelethu Munyamani (22) after accusing him of stealing gold ore from the mine.

The trio allegedly confronted Munyamani on Monday night after finding him walking with unknown people where they had stockpiled gold ore at Good 17 Mine.

Munyamani allegedly fell into a 25 metre-deep shaft as he fled and the trio retrieved him.

Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa said after pulling Munyamani out of the shaft the trio allegedly took him to their residence where they tied him with a rope.

Inspector Dhewa said the suspects used a switch to severely beat Munyamani until he fell unconscious.

An ambulance crew called to take Munyamani to hospital confirmed that he had died.

His body was taken to Masvingo Provincial Hospital for post-mortem.
