“Council approves the selection of (the three co-operatives) as the co-operatives to be assisted by the City of Munich, Germany,” reads part of the minutes.
The three were chosen on the basis of having up to date financial accounts, up to date in terms of holding annual general meetings, good corporate governance and sound management of the co-operatives. Harare and Munich are twin sisters and help each other to develop. The relationship between the two cities started in the 1980s but went on ice when the Elias Mudzuri council was dismissed on corruption charges.
Deputy Mayor Emmanuel Chiroto helped resuscitate the relationship when he visited Germany to explain the good political situation in the country. Harare has sent several delegations to Munich with the Germans reciprocating the visits. On a related note the department of housing and community services has reported that one of its major achievements last year was the allocation of 2 964 residential stands against a target of 3 000.
