Three Goromonzi robbery suspects arrested

THREE of the six armed robbers who were recently caught on CCTV ransacking a house at Pircy Farm in Goromonzi and escaped with US$3 000 and other valuables have been arrested.

This comes after their images, including their faces and clothing, were released. The images were captured on CCTV cameras installed around the farm yard.

Police then appealed for information leading to their arrest.

The six robbers who were armed with machetes and pistols gained entry to the farm by cutting the fence in the backyard. They entered the kitchen through an open door before attacking the farm owners. They stole US$3 000 cash, clothes, two speakers, three cellphones, laptops, jewellery, groceries and three firearms.

The firearms, two shotguns and a pellet gun were later recovered and dumped in the backyard of the farm.

In a statement, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed that they had arrested Sarezi Shonhiwa (57), Godfrey Mapanzure and Tawanda Manokore.

Shonhiwa was arrested in Seke while Mapanzure and Manokore were arrested in Mutorashanga after they committed another armed robbery.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police’s press statement released on November 6, 2024, refers to an armed robbery that occurred at Pircy Farm, Goromonzi, on November 3, 2024. US$3 000 cash and valuables worth US$10  000 were stolen.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Sarezi Shonhiwa aged 57 in connection with the robbery case. On November 9, 2024, detectives from CID Homicide, Harare arrested the suspect at Zin’anga Village, Seke after receiving information that he was one of the suspects captured on CCTV for the robbery incident,” he said.

The suspect admitted and implicated Godfrey Mapanzure, Brian Chiyanwa, Tawanda Manokore and Mhofu (no further particulars known) as his accomplices.

Investigations by the detectives revealed that Godfrey Mapanzure and Tawanda Manokore were arrested on November 9, 2024, in connection with a case of armed robbery which occurred in Mutorashanga.

Sarezi Shonhiwa and his accomplices are also facing another case of armed robbery which occurred on October 26, 2024, along Christon Bank Road in Christon Bank, where a Toyota Rav 4 vehicle (AEE 6525), a Star pistol, five cellphones and US$760 cash were stolen.

Comm Nyathi said, “The Zimbabwe Republic Police commends the public for their continued support and cooperation in the fight against crime.
