Three City of Harare employees died this morning at the Morton Jaffray Water Works near Norton after a tragedy struck while they were reportedly working on a decommissioned c, the City Council said in a statement.
This latest tragedy follows the deaths of two other City of Harare employees who lost their lives on duty barely two months ago after allegedly inhaling toxic fumes at the municipality’s Glen View sewer treatment plant.
In a statement released hours after the incident, the City of Harare expressed its regret over the incident.
“The City of Harare regrets to inform residents of the unfortunate death of threeemployees at our Morton Jaffray Water Works near Norton this morning,” the statement reads.
“Initial reports indicate that the employees were working on a decommissioned clarifier when tragedy struck. The City of Harare is investigating the incident.”
The city also said the police have been notified.
“The City of Harare is fully committed to cooperating with the authorities as investigations into this tragic event continue. The police have been informed and are attending to the incident,” the statement added.
The council also extended its condolences to the bereaved families.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones affected by this devastating loss. We will share further information as it becomes available.”
