THREE men have been arrested for vandalism of a ZESA transformer and theft of armoured cable at Matias Business Centre in Buhera.
National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the arrest of Isaac Lloyd (31), Blessing Mudyanadzo (21), and Tanaka Choruwa (23), last week, following a joint reaction by police and citizens.
“Police confirm the arrest of Isaac Lloyd, aged 31, Blessing Mudyanadzo, aged 21, and Tanaka Choruwa, aged 23, on September 24, 2026, in connection with the vandalism of a ZESA transformer and theft of an armoured cable at Matias Business Centre, Buhera,” said Comm Nyathi.
He said the suspects were discovered by members of the community while allegedly vandalising the transformer and stealing the armoured cable.
“Upon being discovered by members of the community, the suspects abandoned their getaway vehicle, a Toyota Toyoace, Registration Number ADG 6700, and fled from the scene,” he said.
Comm Nyathi said police swiftly responded and tracked down the suspects as they attempted to leave the area.
“Swift police reaction led to their arrest while they were aboard a bus to Harare near Murambinda Business Centre,” he said.
Police are still searching for the fourth suspected accomplice, Peter Chuma (21), of Wakarambwa Village under Chief Nyashanu, Buhera.
“An accomplice, Peter Chuma, aged 21, of Wakarambwa Village, Nyashanu, Buhera, is on the run,” said Comm Nyathi, urging members of the public with information leading to his arrest to approach their nearest police station.
The three suspects are expected to appear in court.
The arrests come amid continued concerns over vandalism and theft of electricity infrastructure in Manicaland, which has disrupted power transmission to communities and businesses.
Earlier this month, a serial vandal, Innocent Mwadini, of Chirindo Village in Mutasa, who targeted ZESA transmission equipment, was convicted on two counts and sentenced to 20 years behind bars.
