Three smugglers arrested in Chirundu

THREE men believed to have been in the habit of smuggling goods and clothes into the country through the Zambezi River have been convicted for contravening the Customs and Excise Act.
The three, Raymond Mutinha (48) of Waterfalls, Harare, Tafadzwa Pulawu (36), and Cosmas Mamu (35) from Chirundu appeared before the Karoi Magistrates” Court and were fined US$150 each or two months in prison if they fail to pay the fine.

On September 23, 2024, Mutinha imported various new clothes and milk from Zambia and packed the clothes into three bales before hiring Pulawu to smuggle them across the Zambezi River during the night.

Pulawu then smuggled the goods with the help of Mamu, who is a taxi driver, using his Toyota Ipsum.

On September 24, 2024, the three were spotted by members of the Zimbabwe National Army who alerted the police, leading to their arrests.

The smuggled goods were recovered and forfeited to the State.
