Bulawayo’s nightlife is set to ignite as some of the country’s legendary DJs prepare to take revellers down memory lane with an Old Skool showdown taking place in the city on August 29.

The event at The Place, aptly dubbed “A Black and White Affair,” promises an unforgettable night tailored for a mature audience, blending timeless 80s classics with smooth 90s R&B. On the decks will be celebrated names, Tich Mataz, Otis Fraser, Emity Smooth, and the sensational female spinner, DJ CP.

Tich Mataz

Speaking ahead of the show, event organiser Otis Fraser said the concept was inspired by the overwhelming success of a similar gig he recently hosted with Tich Mataz in Botswana.
“I recently hosted an event in Gaborone with Tich Mataz, and the response was amazing. The turnout was fantastic. People in Botswana absolutely loved the Old Skool vibe, and Tich’s legendary status still shines across Africa.
“After that, we thought, why not bring this home? These kinds of events should happen in Zimbabwe first before we take them elsewhere,” said Fraser.

What makes the show even more exciting is the unique style each DJ brings to the table. Fraser said this diversity will create a dynamic experience for fans.
“Even though we all have different skills and flavours, our foundation is Old Skool. Instead of one DJ trying to play all genres, we’ll share the sets, giving each performance a fresh feel.

Emity Smooth

“We’ve also incorporated an exclusive 80s segment featuring classics from icons like Loose Ends, Lisa Stansfield, Kenny Thomas, Black Box, and more. Trust me, those attending are in for a treat,” he added.Frazer revealed that after the Bulawayo edition, the team plans to take the event to Midlands and Harare before year-end, ensuring the Old Skool movement sweeps across Zimbabwe.
