JOHANNESBURG. — Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter insists the 3-0 scoreline against AS Vita Club is not a fair reflection of how the game went.Amakhosi’s hopes of reaching the Caf Champions League group stages were dealt a hammer blow in Kinshasa, but Baxter feels an early goal in the return leg at Soccer City on Saturday could change things.

“The game was level at the start and by the time they scored their first chance we had created about two chances already,” he told the club’s official website.

“Even after they scored their first goal it was still an even game. (But) when they scored the third we had to prevent another goal which would have killed the game.

“Still we had two big chances that we couldn’t convert. We will have to hit them with an early goal at home to get back into the game.
“With a two-legged game, this is the first half. If anyone thinks the tie is over they must think again. Football is a funny game.”

Speaking after the game from Sunday night, Chiefs communications manager Vina Maphosa said he was confident they will bounce back and show Vita the exit.

“AS Vita scored three clean goals and we have no complains about them. It was a tough game and the crowd was also hostile.
“They are coming to South Africa this weekend and they won’t stop us. We are planning a feast of goals to beat and eliminate them from the tournament.”

Vita have played two Vodacom Challenge games against Chiefs in South Africa, with the Congolese winning the 2004 final on penalties in Johannesburg. The following year, Chiefs defeated Vita also on penalties in Mmabatho to win the trophy.” — KickOff/Sowetan
