A popular TikToker based in Kadoma has appeared before the court on cyberbullying charges following her alleged harassment of a freelance journalist.
The incident took place on January 4, when Leona Rutendo Zinhu sent intimidating messages to Priscilla Zengeni, who was working on a story that involved Leona’s police case against her husband over a domestic dispute.
Leona appeared before a Kadoma magistrate yesterday and the case was remanded to January 26, for trial.
Leona will be out of custody while her phones will be taken for indications and cyber tracing in Harare.
Allegations are that Leona sent messages to Priscilla that violated the Cyberbullying and Data Protection Act.
She allegedly threatened the journalist with unspecified action.
The complainant, Priscilla, was investigating a domestic violence case, reported under CR 158/12/25, in which Leona’s husband, a popular businessman, Blessed Chari, had physically assaulted her.
In response, Leona who is the second wife to Chari allegedly threatened Priscilla for chasing the story.
She allegedly threatened Priscilla, warning her not to interfere in her personal matters.
Leona further warned Priscilla that any attempts to file a complaint would be futile.
Following these threats, Priscilla reported the incident to the police, which resulted in Leona’s arrest.
