Norton tile manufacturing company, Sunny Yi Feng, opened its doors to the community on a two-day interface to give them unlimited access to their operations.
Currently, the company manufactures floor tiles, roofing tiles, bricks, cement pipes, cups, plates, wooden pallets and cardboard boxes.
President Mnangagwa’s administration has identified the manufacturing sector as a key enabler in attaining an upper middle income economy by 2030.
The tour held recently ran under the theme, ‘We Are Not an Island’ drew more than 250 from the community.
“The main goal of the tour was for the Norton dwellers to understand the organisation’s operations, mainly the manufacturing process starting from the input down to the output which is the end process, the company’s organisational goals as well as showcasing the company end products,” reads part of the statement.
“They all gave some good testimonies of the company after the tour because the contemporary view of Sunny Yi Feng was stereotyped which clouds the mind of the locals thus they were need for a tour to open their minds and to witness what is being done behind the face of Sunny Yi Fend Company,” said the company in a statement,
The company employs around 2000 local personnel and is looking at recruiting more to sustain their growing operations which now have penetrated the regional markets.
The country has plans to boost the manufacturing sector under its economic revival strategy, as it has a critical role to play in satisfying the local and export markets.
Most of the employees are youths and the company says, “the main aim of recruiting such age groups is for skills transfer programmes which is part of the organisation goals.
“The company manages to import highly skilled employees from China and the majority of them are engineers which is benefiting the majority of local employees as this offers a platform for on job training for the unskilled employees.
“It was indeed a successful event because both parties had a chance to understand each other and there is a need for a continuous of such events for the organisation as it is part of the corporate social responsibility,” the company said.
