All is set for the second edition of the Permican awards to be held tomorrow night at City Sports Centre. The awards were founded by United Family International Church leader Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa and his wife Ruth in a bid to honour Zimbabwean gospel musicians, producers and directors among others.

According to the organisers of the show, the event will run under the ‘‘black tie event style’’ and will be conducted for only three hours.

South African gospel singer Loyiso Bala is expected to grace the occasion.

About 17 gongs are up for grabs at the only ceremony that solely honours gospel musicians.

Director for Christ TV which runs the awards, Pastor Ted Lazaro, said all was in place for the show.

“This is an annual event which will be honouring music legends for their excellence. The event is a black tie event with red carpet treatment, therefore guests should stick to the plan. Winners will walk away with trophies and cash prize among other things while those in rewarded absentia will only take the gong,” he said.

Meanwhile this year there is tight competition in some of the categories which include Best Radio Gospel Show, Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Group or Duo of the Year.

In the song of the year, Dr Tawanda whose song ‘‘Unconquerable’’ has been overplayed especially at weddings will go head on with Kuda Mutsvene’s ‘‘Mhururu Kumatenga’’, Minister Mahendere’s ‘‘Mumoyo’’, ‘‘Ebenezeer’’ by Rev Chivaviro and Friends and Takesure Zamar’s song ‘‘Kuregerera in Advance’’.

Prolific Star FM radio presenter Leandar Kandiero’s show ‘‘Gospel Greats’ is vying for the Best Radio Gospel show against National FM’s Felistas Mahlengove, Samantha Rusare of ZIFM’s show ‘‘Get Lifted’’, Radio Zimbabwe’s Gospel 10, Power FM’s Breakfast Inspiration and Spot FM station.

Fans are also looking forward to see who will walk away with the Album of the Year as, all nominees in that category have proved worthwhile in the genre.

The Album of the Year nominees include Pastor G, Takesure Zamar, Mathias Mhere, Minister Mahendere and Tatenda Mahachi.
