TINOTENDA Benza was the biggest winner at the inaugural Herentals Group of Colleges football awards held at Motor Action Sports Club yesterday.
The 21-year-old, who was honoured in absentia, scooped the Player of the Year, Chibuku Super Cup Top Goal Scorer, Most outstanding Player of the Year and the Supporter’s Player of the Year awards.
Herentals coach, Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva, was full of praise for the young player whom he said has a lot of potential to reach dizzy heights.
“I think Tino is doing well in terms of improving as a football player. He is hardworking and has got speed and is good at recovering lost position which many coaches like.
“It is good to be his coach and mentor… I wish to see him get far. The team did well as we fought relegation some few years back and with the addition of some experience players in Ali Masilelo, Godfrey Mukambi and John Zhuwao, among several others, the team did well. Our target is to be title contenders next year,” said Mutiwekuziva.
Brighton Majarira was voted the Players Player of the Year and was excited with the honour and said he is looking forward to do better next season.
“I am very humbled to receive this award. It has been a hectic year but we enjoyed and get hurt at times but that is football. We worked as a team and it is an honour to be recognised as one of the outstanding players.
“My aim is to continue working hard and I thank our sponsor, Innocent Benza, for giving me the platform together with my brothers and teammates,” said Majarira.
