CHIMURENGA/UMVUKELA music singer Titus Majaya is set to launch his latest EP on Friday as he continues to refine his sound and push for a breakthrough in his musical career.
The Bulawayo-based artiste, who leads Dhibiya Express band, blends Sungura and Rhumba influences while drawing inspiration from Chimurenga music traditions.
Majaya, who began his music journey in 2020 with the release of his debut album Gweta Revarombo, followed it up with Ramba Wakadzwanya as he steadily builds his catalogue.
“I learnt music through Chimurenga songs, hence I sing a lot of songs with that theme. However, that does not mean I limit myself to that genre alone; I also explore other themes,” he said.
Majaya said his debut project was a learning curve, as it did not yield much financially, but it strengthened his resolve to continue.
“The new EP features three tracks: Mbuya Nehanda, Zig our Currency and Zimbabwe Huchiii. I’m inspired by the work being done by President Mnangagwa hence my compositions in a way spotlight these. I’m hoping to get sponsorship and be invited to perform at big functions to showcase my talent,” he said.
He said he is already working on a follow-up full album titled Tyt Security, set for release in June.
Majaya, who performs mainly in IsiNdebele and Shona and said he hopes the new EP will open more doors in the industry.
“I hope the fans will love the songs, which may help open more doors for me in the sector. I will never look back until I make it. My band requires instruments and transport so that we can perform live shows,” he said. – @themkhust
