SELF-PROCLAIMED first lady of Zimbabwe House music TKP wants to celebrate her 25th birthday in style after surviving a cancer scare that nearly cut short her career. TKP, real name Sandisiwe Dube will celebrate her birthday at Horizon Night Club on Saturday with a launch of her music video for the song Letting Go off her album, Salibonani. The birthday bash organised by Blaktroop, will feature performances from her and Mzoe 7, DJ Skaiva, Guluva7, Mawiza, Donna, Trp, Leeknotic and poet Blacklily. Blaktroop DJs will be on rotation on the night.
TKP said it had been a difficult 18 months as she was in and out of hospital because of a benign tumour on her lung.
“I’ve been in and out of hospital for the better part of 18 months because of the benign tumour. Not many people know about it, but that’s what I’ve been struggling with. Sometimes I couldn’t perform because of it. So I’m celebrating my health, that I’m breathing and can see another day. I’m celebrating that I’ve been alive for such a long time and I’m not taking that for granted,” said TKP.
The Afro Platinum Music artiste said she would go through some tests during the course of this year. “I’m not out of the woods yet as I’ve to undergo an operation. However, this doesn’t mean I’m made of glass. I’m still the same TKP, only older and wiser, with more ambitions in life,” said TKP.
The Pfugama Unamate hit-maker said the music video which was produced by renowned videographer Blaqs, would be launched on the day of the show. “The launch of my music video is the beginning of many to come this year. I want to concentrate on that aspect of my music. I hope during the launch people can give me feedback on what they think of the music video,” said TKP.
On the day those who are lucky will be sitting with her and other local celebs in the VIP section. “There’ll be a cake that I’ll share with my friends at the VIP. Also some of those in the crowd will have a taste of the cake. Although my real birthday date is July 19, I just want to have fun on the day with friends, family and fans,” said TKP.
