The Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB)latest statistics to 27 July showed that have sold 197 million kg worth US$547 million at an average price of US$2,78 a kg compared to the US$2,49 a kg average during the same period last year when 174 million kg of tobacco had been sold for US$434 million.
This year tobacco output is expected to increase surpassing the 200 million kilogrammes target. The 2021 selling season officially closed on July 14 although business is still continuing at the contract floors.
The flue-cured auction tobacco clean-up sale for the 2021 marketing season will be held on August 5.
Depending on the volumes delivered, the clean-up sale may be continued for more than one day and until all delivered tobacco has been sold.
