As the Chinese business community continues to impact positively on Zimbabwe, Tian Ze Tobacco Company recently donated an assortment of groceries to Hupenyu Hutsva Children’s Home in Highfield, Harare and Dunnolly Primary School in Seke District, Mashonaland East.
Dunnolly Primary School received stationery and food hampers for learners and teachers, while Hupenyu Hutsva received groceries worth US$20 000, which included rice, sugar, cooking oil, among other basic goods.
Speaking during the handover of the goods in Highfield, Tian Ze public affairs manager Wenjie Li said the donation was part of the company’s social corporate responsibility. The gesture would go a long way in alleviating the plight of the less privileged children at the home.
“We have been supporting this orphanage for a long time, especially towards Christmas, where we will be donating groceries for the children,” he said.
“Since we have been operating in Zimbabwe since 2005, we feel it’s our responsibility to take care of the community where we are operating from, and to support the disadvantaged. We want the children to grow up and contribute to the economy of Zimbabwe.”
Hupenyu Hutsva Children’s Home senior supervisor, Mrs Alice Chitoro, thanked Tian Ze for the kind gesture, adding that the donation came at an opportune time as they were facing challenges in feeding the children.
“We are grateful to our friends who have remembered us. We pray that they will continue to work with us,” she said.
