Precious Manomano-Herald Reporter

The 2024 tobacco auction marketing season will officially close tomorrow with farmers describing the season as a success.

Farmers have so far earned US$792 million from the sale of over 230 million kg compared to US$895 million earned from the sale of 295 million kg during the same period last year.

Contract floors will continue receiving deliveries until further notice.

Mop-up sale under the auction system will be held on August 29.

Meanwhile, the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB) has advised farmers to be up to date with climate forecasts, adding that climate-proofing mechanisms will help to improve yields.

Tobacco is one of the country’s top foreign currency earners.
