All is set for the opening of the 2019 tobacco selling season with the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB) yesterday saying it was ready.

The season opens next week.

TIMB corporate communications manager Mr Isheunesu Moyo told The Herald: “The marketing season comes on the 20th of March, 2019 on the auction system and contract floors will open on the 21st of March, 2019.

“For now three auction floors are licensed. These are the Tobacco Sales Floor, Boka Tobacco Auction Floors and Premier Tobacco Auction Floors. “Dates and settlement plan for payment are in place, 50 percent of proceeds will be paid in Nostro accounts and 50 percent in RTGs accounts at the prevailing interbank rate.”

He said all the licensed floors were ready.

“We are ready. This year we will be using all the floor space for auction sales which means that one auction floor can accommodate more than 9 000 bales per sale. Whether it is raining or not everything is sorted as far as receiving tobacco is concerned.”
