Things look set to continue happening for Obey Makamure as he rides his current platinum status at home as a stepping stone to acclaim beyond the borders. Popularity known as Tocky Vibes, he is set to tour the United Kingdom next week.
Dubbed “Tocky Vibes UK Tour” the Torro entertainment venture will see Diasporans and other UK dancehall lovers sway to the beat of the Mbare bred chanter Kinnah and Ninja Lipsy.

The artistes will stage two shows in Leicester and Dunstable on October 31 and November 1 respectively .

In an interview with The Herald Entertainment, Tocky Vibes’ manager Elvis Bokosha said the musician promised an explosive act.

“It is indeed a dream come true for Tocky Vibes who has been working hard since he hogged the limelight. He has always wanted to prove to the world what he is capable of.

“We also want to thank all the fans for the support. It is because of them that Tocky has made it this far. To show his gratitude, we are promising an explosive act come October 31,” he said.

The “Ah Ah hii hii” singer is tearing up the airwaves with his socially conscious songs that have endeared him to both young and old.

He has many lyrically rich songs like “Kure Kwegava” and “Simudza Maoko” but on “Mhai” the 20-year-old struck all the right chords and now looks set to go the places he suggests on his hit “Aenda Nenyika”.

Most of his songs talk about the everyday life of ordinary Zimbabweans and the struggles they go through.

For instance, in “Mhai” Tocky sings of a son from a disadvantaged background who is gradually making it in a small way and promises to always stick with his apprehensive mother through thick and thin, just as she has struggled to raise him.

He sings: “Tocky kana zvichinge zvanaka usandikanganwe . . .”

On “Tocky Aenda Nenyika” he gives thanks to his multitudes of fans for the great support.

He has been applauded for riding on clean lyrics something that most Zim dancehall artistes have failed to do.

Those who witnessed his outstanding performance at the Lion Lager Summer Beer Festival held at the Glamis Stadium recently will attest that Tocky raised the bar high for himself and the others.

After raising a storm with his garb locally, it is left to see how the UK audience will take to Tocky’s robes which are modelled on those of the last medium of the national spirit Mbuya Nehanda. The attire has split opinions with some approving how the young man is writing his own style book while others have denigrated him for terrible sartorial standards. He seems to be feeling the heat from the negative camp and at a recent function he changed costumes to get on stage in a conventional Western type suit.
