Toddler dies in inferno at neighbour’s house

Fungai Lupande-Mashonaland Central Bureau

A FOUR-MONTH-OLD infant died in an inferno at a neighbour’s house where the baby had been left by her mother in Shamva.

Mashonaland Central acting provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Tonny Nyandoro said the incident happened last Friday at Low-Density village.

The mother, Ms Kudakwashe Mabhande, left baby Joshua Mupeusa in the custody of a neighbour, Ms Blessing Nyahunzvi (32).

Asst Insp Nyandoro said at around 5pm, Ms Nyahunzvi left the baby inside the hut and went to fetch water about 800 metres away. The baby was asleep at that point.

Upon her return, the hut was on fire and Ms Nyahunzvi heard Ms Tsitsi Tezeni (30), calling for help.

Efforts to put out the fire with the help of neighbours were fruitless.

A report was made at ZRP Shamva and police officers attended the scene.

TNo foul play is suspected.
