Toddler dies, older sister father injured in accident

A toddler died on the spot while her father and older sister were seriously injured following a road traffic accident that occurred along Bristol road near Midlands Metals in Gweru yesterday.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the fatal accident which occurred around 5:50PM.

He said the toddlers father, Thompson Kakomwe (28) of Mkoba 9, Gweru, was driving a sky blue Honda Fit along Bristol road from Gweru town to Mkoba with his two daughters aged 10 and one year.

“On approaching Midlands Metals, he failed to control the vehicle resulting in it veering off the road and hitting a stationery lorry which was parked outside the road. The one-year-old daughter Kimberly Kakomwe, died on the spot,” said Insp Mahoko.

He said Thompson suffered head injuries and was rushed to Gweru Provincial Hospital where he is admitted in a serious condition whilst the other daughter is also admitted at the same hospital in a stable condition.
