Toddler drowns in sewage pond

A five-year-old female toddler from Banket died on Wednesday when she slipped into a sewage pond in the farming town, before drowning.

Provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Margaret Chitove, confirmed the incident which occurred around 0900hrs near Kuwadzana high density suburb.

She said the toddler, identified as Faith Manganda, was in the company of her eight-year-old brother Thomas John and their mother’s friend Angela Saini (18) on their way to a community garden when drowned.

“Angela Saini then rushed to inform Faith’s mother, Felistus Antonio (25), before making a report to the Banket police who retrieved the body,” said Insp Chitove. “Her body was taken to Banket District Hospital for post-mortem.”

Insp Chitove said police were still conducting investigations.
