Toddlers perform at Hifa

The Kiddos toddlers opened up the show playing the national anthem on marimba. The children put up a scintillating performance which left the fully packed audience at the venue in awe.

The Dominican Convent girls proved that given a chance, girls can develop the art industry.
The girls who were clad in blue performed traditional songs on marimba and dances.
Some of the songs they performed were composed and directed by their teacher.

School and nursery music teacher Richard Matimba said it was a great honour for kids to perform at Hifa.
“It is my pleasure to teach little children music. I am happy that my children both nursery and primary school managed to put a brilliant performance to a wonderful international audience. Convent has continued to grow and looking forward to perform at international festivals given a chance,” he said.

Matimba said people should not only wait for such festivals to showcase their talent but continue to build themselves in the art sector.
“This is the second time here performing at Hifa. Last year we performed with the senior girls who also put up a good show yesterday. I thank the Hifa organisers for giving such platforms especially to the children as it can promote their talent,” he said.

A parent identified as Ida Chimedza encouraged parents to support their children as art itself can sustain livelihood.
“I am shocked and happy at the same time after seeing the performances by the children. I liked the co-ordination at such a tender age. Art can develop oneself and the country at large. We have a lot of people who are surviving with art,” she said.

The event saw many parents including children from Matthew Rusike in attendance. The children were treated to a fanfare as they got to receive free T-shirts from Simba chips — the main sponsor of the stage.

The festival is in its 13th year and the theme for this year is “What’s Next . . .?” Each year the festival gives platform to children to showcase their talent and exchanging cultural ideas.
