Bulawayo-based musician Mzoe 7 has paid tribute to the overwhelming support he has received from individuals, businesses, and creatives as preparations intensify for the second edition of his highly anticipated one-man show.
The show, titled “I Am Who I Am”, takes place this Saturday at the Bulawayo Theatre as part of the ongoing 50 Dates at the Theatre series curated by arts veteran Saimon “Mambazo” Phiri. Mzoe 7 will share the stage with some of the city’s finest, including Macala, Apd, Vocal X, and Asaph.
Speaking ahead of the event, the multi-talented singer, dancer, and choreographer said the outpouring of support has been both humbling and inspiring, proving how much the community values the arts.
“Several people have come forward to support the initiative. Businessman Mr Gandiwa paid for all the posters because he believes in the visibility of brands. Aletta Nyathi provided cases of water to keep everyone hydrated, while Noni covered the cost of our marketing materials,” said Mzoe 7.
He said media personality Zazalicious has also bought five tickets for giveaways.
The spirit of generosity has extended far and wide. Mavusana, a long-time supporter of the arts, contributed to transportation and catering during rehearsals. Meanwhile, other companies offered rehearsal space daily, with some also assisting with stage setup.
More companies also continue to buy tickets in numbers to support the musician.
“I’m happy to see more business people appreciating the importance of working with artistes. Many people are looking forward to the show, and we won’t disappoint. We’re rehearsing up to eight hours a day with a cast of over 40 people – it’s a big challenge, but the passion and teamwork make it worth it.”
