Tongogara CSOT to get $500 000 equipment

receive equipment worth more than $500 000 for use in community projects.

The hand-over ceremony was supposed to be yesterday but has now been postponed to next week. In a statement yesterday, National Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Board (NIEEB) public relations and communications manager Ms Grace Tsvakanyi said: “Today’s event has been postponed to next week at a date to be advised”.

The equipment which the trust will receive includes a borehole driller, grader, and a 7-tonne truck. Youth Development, Indigenisation and Empowerment Minister Saviour Kasukuwere, and his counterpart the Minister of Local Government, Rural and Urban Development, Dr Ignatius Chombo, the Governor and Resident Minister of Midlands Jason Machaya, NIEEB chief executive officer Mr Wilson Gwatiringa among others are expected to attend the presentation ceremony.

Community Share Ownership Schemes were introduced in 2011 as a development strategy for communities with the Tongogara Community Share Ownership Trust at Unki Mine having been launched by President Mugabe in November 2011.

The Tongogara CSOT has so far identified “five start-up projects”.

The projects include the construction of a mortuary, classroom blocks, and gardens, drilling boreholes and dam construction.

Other trusts launched in the country include Gwanda, Mhondoro-Ngezi, Matabeleland North, and Marange.
