IT is now a three-horse race in the battle for the Central Soccer League (CSL) title after army side Tongogara succumbed to a 2–3 loss to Blanket Mine on Saturday. The former Premiership outfit now trails log leaders Shabanie Mine by 10 points with four rounds of matches to go.
Shabanie Mine lead with 57 points followed by Blanket Mine on 56 and Ivan Hoe on 52.
Tongogara went into the match needing nothing short of victory to keep abreast with other title aspirants, but they fell to goals from Mthulisi Sibanda, Ephraim Moyo and Erasmus Kazingizi for Blanket Mine, while Timothy Dube and Pride Mvundura scored for the army outfit.
Tongogara coach Ignatius Kapitapita said they were now focusing on a top four finish. “Our objective now is to finish the season on a high by winning the remainder of our games and then see how things pan out,” said Kapitapita.
He then lashed out at the match officials, accusing them of bias, which he said contributed to his side’s poor results in the second half of the season.
“The problem in the CSL lies with poor officials who determine clubs to be promoted at the end of each season, hence you find that when a team is promoted from this region, it is relegated the following season because someone would have done the job for them in Division One,” charged Kapitapita.
