Tongogara 4-0 Gweru City
ARMY side Tongogara bounced back to winning ways after a three-match losing streak by turning the tables on ambitious Gweru City whom they pummelled 4-0 at Battlefields at the weekend.
A brace by Talent Chimonera and a goal apiece by Shelton Mhaka and Costa Chimbeva settled matters for the military side.
The win saw them maintain third position after leaders Whawha completed a double over Vumbachikwe whom they beat 1-0 at Pelandaba while second placed ZRP Beitbridge were 2-0 winners over FC Platinum Under-19.
A fourth minute free kick by Farai Mponda ensured Whawha remain perched at the summit of the standings with 32 points, four ahead of ZRP Beitbridge and Tongogara who lie second and third respectively with 28 points.
The police outfit however, have a superior goal difference over Tongogara.
Tongogara’s Ignatius Kapitapita was relieved after collecting his first set of maximum points after a three match dry spell and said the win is a confidence booster for his charges.
“Obviously, this is a confidence booster from us and we will carry a lot of positives from this match going forward.
“After a bright start in the second half of the season my hope is that things can only get better and finish strongly at the end of the season,” he said.
In other matches, Mashava based asbestos miners, Gaths Mine failed to convert two penalties and were subsequently held to a two-all draw by struggling Nkayi United while Blanket Mine recorded the biggest win of the weekend clobbering visiting Silo United 5–1 in Gwanda.
MSU had a fruitful trip away to Zvishavane where they walloped Zvishavane Stars 3-0 at Mandava while Chrome Stars earned maximum points without kicking a ball after Gokwe based Chomumvuri Pirates failed to turn up for the match.
