TONGOONA Charamba missed his first Zimbabwe Open cut after he carded an embarrassing 10-over at Royal Harare this weekend. He was naturally disappointed by the way he played. ‘‘Sometimes such things happen in sport and it’s my first time to miss the cut. I was expecting to do well after my last performance in Zambia,’’ he said.
“It’s something which you don’t expect but I will carry on from here. ‘‘The course was challenging. I thought I would make it here at home but it wasn’t to be.
“I now look forward to the Zambia Sugar Open this coming week and I hope to recover. It is all about practice. But with lack of game time back home it is difficult to be among the guys who play well week in, week out. I am still looking forward to doing well at the Zambia Open.’’
The just-ended Old Mutual Zimbabwe Open turned out to be a nightmarish outing for locals, with only five players making the cut at two-over.
Hillside professional, Robson Chinhoi, who finished on two-under said he is happy to be where he is and is getting inspiration from his homeboys Robson Saurombe and Biggie Chibvuri.
“I get a lot of inspiration from Rob and Biggie who have achieved a lot in as far as golf is concerned. As a youngster, I was fortunate to come through the same course as the players who have represented Manicaland well.
“I am just looking forward to the Zambia Open and I can’t promise much but will just go there and enjoy my golf,” Chinhoi said. The quintet of Ryan Cairns, Mark Williams, Robson Chinhoi, Trainos Muradzikwa and Marc Cayeux managed to make the cut but could not challenge for the honours. The tournament was won Bryce Easton who shot a nine-under-par 63 final round to equal the course record.
