THE managing director of Marcedale group, owners of Heads and Hooves butcheries, Christopher Androliakos (58) from Famona suburb in Bulawayo has committed suicide by hanging over an undisclosed issue, police have said.

Circumstances are that on Wednesday (12 June 2024), the now deceased came home and parked his vehicle, and the maid knocked off and went to her living quarters. The next day, the maid commenced her duties at around 6 am and found the doors of the main house locked.

She proceeded to the now-deceased’s bedroom window and knocked but there was no response. After waiting for some time, she entered the house through the kitchen window which is always kept open to allow movement for the cat.

As she was moving along the corridor towards the main bedroom she discovered the body of the now deceased hanging on the ceiling on a nylon rope and reported the matter to the police.

In a similar incident, Cecil Elisha (27) who was intending to fly to Johannesburg, South Africa, on a plane which was scheduled to depart JMN Airport at around 5 pm for his medical check-up committed suicide by hanging.

Elisha went to the toilets and took too long to return thereby delaying the flight to depart. The airport aviation security officer started looking for him and he was found hanging at the back of the door of the international departures’ toilet.  He used a nylon rope to hang himself on the hinge which is at the back of the toilet door. A police report was made.

Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the two incidents and urged the public to seek counselling in dealing with challenges.

“We confirm that we received two cases of sudden death by hanging which occurred on 13 June 2023 on different occasions.  We urge the public to seek counselling when they encounter problems rather than to resort to taking their own lives,” said Inspector Ncube.
