The tusks were allegedly hidden under the seat of a red Mahindra pick-up truck on March 9, 2012.
The two got bail in Harare after several unsuccessful attempts in Matabeleland.
Mapanga was asked to pay US$100 for bail.
Justice Nicholas Mathonsi granted the two bail pending referral of their case to the Supreme Court for determination of Constitutional issues.
This followed a successful application by defence lawyer, Mr Tapson Dzvetero of Antonio Dzvetero Legal Practitioners.
Justice Mathonsi ordered the two not to interfere with investigations and evidence.
Mudzamiri was ordered to surrender his passport to the clerk of court and to report once every fortnight at Hatfield Police Station.
Mapanga should report once fortnightly at St Mary’s Police Station in Chitungwiza.
Mudzamiri and Mapanga were denied bail at Hwange Magistrates’ Court and at the High Court Bulawayo. Mr Dzvetero has also successfully applied for his clients’ case to be referred from Hwange magistrates’ Court to the Supreme Court citing infringement of their Constitutional rights.
Pending determination the two have been released on bail.
Another man who was in the same car when the two were arrested has since pleaded guilty to possessing the tusks and was jailed two years effective.
Mudzamiri and Mapanga are denying the allegations arguing that they did not know that the tusks had been put in the car they were travelling in.
