A fund raising dinner dance for Tose Respite Care Home in Prospect held at a Harare hotel last week helped to bring out the challenges being faced by the institution that caters for the plight of people with severe mental and physical disabilities.
Unlike other institutions that care for ordinary disabilities, Tose Respite goes the extra mile for those with the more severe and multiple impairments from the age of five.
Their operations are financed by small Government grants and well wishers.
It is run by volunteers and specialised care givers. To supplement its income, Tose Respite which houses 40 inmates runs several income generating projects raising chickens and gardening projects.
More than $5 200 was raised at the well attended dinner dance to cover for various needs ranging from standing frames, therapy mats, fleece covers, paediatric wheelchairs, crepe bandages and a hydrotherapy solar heating system. – Cool Writer.
