The team leader of a group of eight cyclists that are set to represent the country at the tri-nations annual Tour de Tuli tourism expedition, Mr Gordon Goodison has died. Zimbabwe Tourism Authority spokesperson Mr Godfrey Koti said on Monday that Mr Goodison died on Thursday last week while training for the forthcoming tour.
“The ZTA has learnt with shock and sadness on the tragic passing of Gordon Goodison, who was the leader of Team Zimbabwe, which is preparing for Tour de Tuli. He died while training for this year’s event, which will be held from 2-7 August.
“His body was found on the side of the road in Harare on Thursday morning,” said Mr Koti.
Children in the Wilderness’s Public Relations and Media Relations manager Ms Nirvani Pillay said recently that preparations were on track.
“We are in the process of putting together a route launch.
“Preparations have begun and the Nedbank Tour de Tuli is on track this year from August 2 to 7,” she said.
The event is held annually in the Greater Mapungubwe Trans-frontier Conservation Area (GMTFCA) made up of national parks from Botswana, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
A total of 500 tourists from across the globe, mainly the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Austria and other European and Asian countries are expected to participate at the week-long event between August 2 and 7.
