DECADES after many successful boxing and wrestling tournaments promoted by Jack Sanders in Kwekwe, boxing will mark a grand return on Friday night.
Promoted by Charles Manyuchi Boxing Academy, the Trabablas bill with almost a dozen fights, is set to be the biggest tournament of the year and has attracted a number of professional boxers from Zimbabwe and the region.
“This is the biggest tournament so far this year. We have put in a lot in terms of preparations and everything to ensure we have a great evening of boxing. All the boxers on the card are top acts and fans will have a great time,” said Manyuchi on Monday.
The Friday evening bill will be the third of a nationwide tour to take the Trabablas Series to all provinces and sponsorship has already been secured.
“We are excited to be taking boxing to Kwekwe. We are grateful to our sponsors who are making this happen and this will help develop professional boxing countrywide and to Sakunda Holdings our sponsors, we are very grateful,” said the former World Boxing Council welterweight champion in the silver category.
Manyuchi said a number of fights involving female boxers had been lined up.
“In our quest to empower youths, we have not left girls out, they will be part of the bill as our approach is inclusive,” said Manyuchi.
Revai Madondo of Zimbabwe will clash with Malawi’s Chimwemwe Banda in an eight-round super bantamweight contest.
Bulawayo boxer Sehliselwe Nhliziyo who has done well on the professional scene, will meet Malawi’s Marriam Dick in a six-round fight.
The super bantamweight boxer is coached by Anderson Sibanda.
Nhliziyo just like Madondo will fight to defend the Zimbabwe flag.
To spice up the event, Manyuchi deliberately set foreign boxers to face each other here.
Zambian Elizabeth Phiri will face South African champion Harriet Mtende in an eight round flyweight contest which promises fireworks.
In another women’s contest, Lozita Muzeya of Zimbabwe will take on Kenyan boxer Charity Mukami.
Their fight is set for eight rounds and both will be hoping to make the best of their international middleweight fight.
Evans Husayiwevhu from Zimbabwe will face Bernard Kundayi of Malawi in a light welterweight division contest to be fought over six rounds.
Leon Kusemwa also from Zimbabwe is set trade leather with Isaac Mangesa of Zambia in another light welterweight division contest set for six rounds with super middlweighters Mbachi Kaonga of Zambia taking on Freeman Mabvongwe of Zimbabwe.
Flyweight Zimbabwe boxer Tinashe Majoni will clash with Sean Josephy of Malawi.
