A Kwekwe traditional healer who teamed up with an accomplice to rob a local resident of US$1  400 at gunpoint, has been sentenced to nine years in jail.

Prince Mutero (23), who committed the crime with Lazarus Moyo who is still on the run, was convicted on his own plea of guilty to armed robbery by Kwekwe regional magistrate Ms Rumbidzai Mugwagwa.

He will, however, serve an effective six years after one year was suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour and another two years were suspended on condition he pays restitution of US$1 400 to the complainant, Mr Jabulani Mbanga.

The court heard that on May 28 at around 10PM, Mutero and Moyo waylaid Mr Mbanga at his house.

After parking his Mercedes-Benz in the driveway and stepping out to close the gate, Mr Mbanga was ambushed. Mutero pulled out a silver revolver and pointed it at his head, ordering him to lie on the ground. Moyo, armed with a black Blow pistol, joined in as the pair searched the complainant.

They stole US$1 400 from a cross bag kept in the vehicle’s glove compartment before fleeing the scene.

Mr Mbanga reported the matter to the police leading to Mutero’s arrest. Officers also recovered the two pistols used in the robbery.
