A REPRESENTATIVE of tribal leaders in the United Nations, South Africa’s Bulelani Lobengula Khumalo has described the recent resurgent xenophobia attacks on foreign nationals in South Africa as atrocious and against the ethos of Ubuntu.
Addressing the Press on the sidelines of the King Mambo day event held at Ngondoma homestead in the Mawabeni area of Umzingwane District in Matabeleland South Province yesterday, Khumalo said the recent events in South Africa were a disregard by some malcontents to accept cultural diversity.
“It’s atrocious. I think what we have forgotten is not just Ubuntu but the fact that we have more in common in terms of differences as people in the region and across the continent…,” he said.
Khumalo, who is also said to be King of the Ndebele said such waves of violence were retrogressive towards the development of the continent.
Khumalo, who is in the country for the King Mzilikazi commemoration day, which was also held yesterday, said he paid a courtesy call at the King Mambo day event to show the world to learn to appreciate each other’s cultures. “We are cultural in our nature and since we are cultural we believe we should support everything that is cultural. This is one of the events that we thought we should attend and we meet with the organisers and show respect and show the nation that we are not in a fight. We are all into culture and heritage,” he said.
The King Mambo day was graced by over 70 chiefs from various parts of the country and over 2000 people thronged Ngondoma homestead for the celebrations.
