A quiet Thursday evening in Magwegwe turned into tragedy when a 23-year-old man, Keith Nicho Gore, was mowed down and killed by a Toyota Hiace kombi along Umnyama Road.

The horrific incident happened around 7:59PM near Magwegwe Club.
According to police, the 32-year-old driver from New Magwegwe had pulled off the road to drop off a passenger, but chaos unfolded when he tried to rejoin traffic.

“He lost control of the vehicle, swerved into the oncoming lane and hit the pedestrian who was walking along the side of the road,” said Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, the Bulawayo Province police spokesperson.

Gore, who lived in Magwegwe West, suffered severe head injuries and multiple fractures to his legs, and died on the spot.

The kombi driver’s failure to keep proper control of the vehicle was cited as the cause of the fatal crash. The deceased’s body was taken to the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH).
“We urge all drivers to exercise utmost caution when pulling off by the roadside and when merging back into traffic. Always ensure it is safe to do so,” said Insp Msebele.
