Tragic Zvishavane crash: One dead, one injured in pirate taxi accident

One person died on the spot while another was injured when a pirate taxi, a Toyota Fun Cargo, veered off the road and hit a tree in Zvishavane.

Midlands Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the fatal accident.

“Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms a fatal road traffic accident where one person died on the spot and another was injured,” he said.

“The incident occurred on October 1, 2025, around 4:45 pm at 1 km peg along Gudo – Mhototi dust road, Zvishavane,” he said.

Insp Mahoko said the deceased was identified as Tapiwa Mhlanga (36) of Majambila Village, Chief Mazvihwa, Zvishavane.

He said the driver of the pirate taxi Tadiwa Hove (23) of Dovengwe Village, Chief Mazvihwa, Zvishavane, was driving along Gudo-Mhototi Road with Mhlanga on board.

“Upon reaching the 1 km peg, the vehicle veered off the road to the left and hit a tree. Mhlanga suffered head injuries and died on the spot, while Hove was rushed to Zvishavane District Hospital, where he is admitted in a stable condition,” he said.

Insp Mahoko urged motorists to exercise maximum caution to avoid unnecessary loss of lives.
