Transformer oil thieves nabbed

Two Harare men have appeared in court on allegations of draining 80 litres of oil from a Zesa transformer in Epworth. Jonas Mukandhla (42) and Gilbert Mutoko (38) appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Elijah Makomo on Tuesday. They were remanded in custody pending trial. They are facing allegations of contravening the ZESA Act. Mukandhla pleaded to be released on bail arguing that he is a widower taking care of three children.

Mr Makomo told him he was facing a serious offence carrying a mandatory 10-year sentence. Mutoko also asked the court to release him because he ha no connection to the offence.

Mr Makomo advised him to wait for the trial court to make its determination.
